The Sultanate of Oman Oman is expected to be affected by an eastern weather trough starting this evening, with unsettled conditions to persist for several days.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority (Oman Meteorology), local cloud formations will gradually build starting today, August 17, 2026, primarily over parts of the Al Hajar Mountains and surrounding areas. The incoming trough will create favorable atmospheric conditions for the development of scattered thunderstorms.

Forecasters warn that the weather system may trigger occasional hail, active downdraft winds causing rising dust, and lightning strikes. Horizontal visibility is also expected to drop significantly during rainfall.

Oman Meteorology has urged the public to stay informed by following official weather bulletins and to exercise maximum caution during this period.
